Monday is What Day???

Googling yourself is a nasty habit. Researchers have yet to determine whether or not it causes blindness, but plenty of fellow-writers tell me it’s addictive, so I don’t do it. I’m serious. I don’t!

Anyway, I don’t need to Google myself because that’s what friends are for. Sometimes they’ll forward me links about Thirteen Reasons Why (or its author) which appear in their Google Alerts. And I must say, that does freak me out a bit. Why? Because it means they’ve signed up to receive e-mails whenever anything is said about me online.

Am I wrong, or isn’t that one step away from stalking?

Okay, maybe not. But it still freaks me out!

Next Monday, I’ll be spending a full-day at R.A. Long High School in Longview, Washington. I’ve been excited about this visit for almost a year, working with their super-creative librarian (Hi, Joan!) to make it a great event. But this week I got around a dozen e-mails from my “alerted” friends telling me about an article I just needed to read concerning my upcoming visit. You can check it out for yourself by clicking here.

Monday is going to be a lot of fun, yes. But I must admit to feeling a tad nervous (and totally unworthy) after reading that article. Fortunately, my friends/stalkers tell me that I often say silly/stupid things when I’m nervous…which they also tell me makes me a lot more entertaining.

So Monday should be really entertaining, Longview!

  1. It doesn't suprise me at all that people are talking about you and this book. It's absolutely amazing! It was the best book I have read in a long long time. The way you had her voice and his reactions was perfect and everything was so beautifully written. I'm recommending it to all my friends now. Thank you so much for writing a book that makes people want to do something good and maybe treat people better so that they don't end up being one of someone's thirteen dozen.

  2. Hahaha. I wouldn't necessarily call it stalking... more like keeping oneself informed about the business of others. Yes, that DOES sound a bit like stalking but it doesn't exactly say "stalking." It's "informing" and it's always good to be informed... about others.

And I would totally google myself every fifteen minutes. But sadly, I don't think I would come up with anything. Well, actually... let me check...

  5. The Daily News article was inspiring to read as an educator, a reader, and an aspiring author. Thank you for sharing it!

I saw you speak at SCWBI and was hooked! The kids will love you! And, if you're not nervous, well, that's worse than being nervous.

    ENJOY!!!!!!

  7. What Jennie Englund said! Jay Asher DAY!! Yipes, that was an amazing article.

But I had to google myself this week--to find out how people were suddenly finding me!! Even though I would have seen your previous post, anyway, that's actually how I found it. It was a nice discovery!

    :)

  8. I just finished packing for tomorrow's flight. Everytime I fly somewhere, I think, "Why does it take this long to pack?" Because it really shouldn't take this long. And it's really annoying that, everytime, it does take this long.

Anyway...I'm packed! And everything fits into my carry-on!!!

  10. HAHA! "Jay Asher Day"....that's awesome.

Here's a few little known facts about "Jay Asher Day" traditions:

    1) All celebrants must listen to Def Leppard's "Hysteria" on repeat all day long

    2) The only movies allowed to be played on "Jay Asher Day" are Space Camp or Goonies

    3) Nuts and onions are banned from being served in any dish.

If you find anyone breaking these rules, you are obligated to hit them upside the head with a hard copy of 13 Reasons Why (which you carry on you at all times of course on "Jay Asher Day")

It's like St. Patrick's Day, without the green, shamrocks, pinching, or Guinness.

    OK....on 2nd thought, it's nothing like St. Patrick's day...unless he had a fetish for the 80's and a man-crush on Joe Elliot.

Happy Jay Asher Day everyone! :-)

  11. Totally true, Shelli. I did it for a bit when my book first came out, then realized I had to stop before it became totally addictive...cuz I could see it heading that way.

And, Erik...dude!...it's Elliott. You should know that by now. But you've got the Jay Asher Day traditions down!
