Have you ever been a fan of a band, and when they got really famous you felt special because you liked them way before almost anyone else? (Of course, anyone who claimed to be a fan after you was just a poseur trying to act cool.)
Well, I was a huge fan of Robin Benway's Audrey, Wait! from the day it hit the shelves. I was telling everyone to read the book. And since the book just came out in paperback, I'll take the opportunity to remind you again...read this book. It's hilarious!
If the cost of the hardback was the problem, then the problem was just cut in half. And if you already own the hardback, buy the paperback, too. It's got a brand new cover! After all, that's what a real fan would do. (Ms. Benway talks about the new cover on her blog, which you can jump to by clicking here.)
I'm especially excited and honored because the paperback includes a blurb from me on the back. Check it out...
I know how you feel about bands. My yongest son (15) is a bit of a music rebel and like to try abd shock me with his music choices. He fronted up a few months ago with a song from Iron Maiden. I just smiled and pulled out one of their records to show him. I've grown out of them now but I liked them when I was his age.
ReplyDeleteHe was crestfallen.
I will certainly put Robin's book on my to buy list.
I'm still waiting for the book shop to get Thirteen Reasons Why in - seems like you sold out (at least in Australia) They tell me it's on back order.
Regards
Jeff
I saw the post on Disco Mermaids and literally just (maybe 30 minutes ago) finished reading the paperback with your blurb.
ReplyDeleteTotally right, so much fun. It kind of makes me feel sorry for all those teen celebrities and anyone Taylor Swift writes a song about!
That's so cool! And yeah, I totally do that with bands... I was uber-excited when Gogol Bordello got big in the U.S., cause I'd been stalking them for ages at that point (although I think they were already pretty big in Europe pre-my stalking).
ReplyDeleteJeff, you whipped out an Iron Maiden record in front of your son? I would pay good money to have seen his expression!
ReplyDeleteEJ, I agree. I'm sure being a teen celebrity has its perks, but it's gotta be a mixed blessing. For example, I'm sure Miley Cyrus feels just horrible about her book knocking this year's Newbery winner from the top spot on the NYT bestsellers list.
And Ellen, Gogol Bordello rocks! I love their song that goes...y'know, the one that starts...the one that...
Well, Gogol Bordello rocks! I've been a fan of theirs since forever!!!
Yeah. I'm sure she's completely choked up. Thank God she has that live in "boyfriend" to comfort her.
ReplyDeleteYou know it's really interesting that you blogged about this, because I have noticed that your book is really increasing in popularity! Everytime I go to a bookstore the hardcover of 13 Reasons Why is in a very visible spot. And I just smile when I go past because I remember going to the store the day 13RW was released in stores, and coming back to my dorm to read it straight through cover to cover. And then I lent it to my roommate who was going away on a trip, and she came back saying she loved it.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of awesome when you're one of those people who likes something BEFORE it's cool to like something.
Way to go Jay! I just got that paperback version today. I reviewed it on my blog, along with 13RW. Actually, 13RW was my first entry. Joan
